Movie: From design to tailor-made product

From design to a tailor-made product, handcrafted with passion in the Netherlands.

Look at Ghyczy Handcraft

from product to product or sustainable design

DDW.jpg In an age of mass production is the goal of Ghyczy to create products of lasting value.

The collection, designed by Peter Ghyczy is timeless and cosmopolitan. The quality is very high, so that the products will last a lifetime. If for any reason the product in terms of size or performance needs to be replaced, they can be recycled into new designs of Peter Ghyczy.

We call it: from product to product or sustainable design.

Each Ghyczy design furniture can be restored in our workshop or the various materials can be used to create a new design furniture.

We invite you to discuss with us this subject at the DDW of Oct. 22-30 in Eindhoven.

Garden egg chair re-created

nikola-gardeneggchair1.jpgnikola-gardeneggchair2.jpgnikola-gardeneggchair3.jpg

Introduction

A collaboration with artist Nikola Nikolov and Ghyczy in transforming the garden egg chair.

Story

Nikola, functioning on the grey borders of interior design and art, had the honor to re-create one of the design icons of the 1960s, the legendary Garden Egg Chair of Peter Ghyczy. Transforming a number of chairs into a abstract sculpture, Nikolov aims to preserve and express the emotions of the sixties, a time of big changes in which The Egg Chair was created. Inspired by Peter Ghyczy’s philosophy, “The right knowledge of proportions, construction, craftsmanship and independence of mind are the conditions to create products of lasting value.” For his sculpture Nikolov choose to re-create the Egg Chair by cutting shells into many pieces, giving them the shape of an ancient Persian symbol The Paisley, a symbol of Life and Eternity. Connecting them back together by metal bolts and aluminum pipes, creating for what appear to be a random chaotic object, yet observed carefully, the viewer discovers that every piece is positioned in a delicate balance with all the others. The ‘Garden Egg Shells’ (the name Nikolov chooses for his creation) is a Homage to the cosmopolite Peter Ghyczy. It is a symbol of the rebellious spirit of the era when the Garden Egg Chair was created, one of the icons of modern design.

About Nikola

Nikola Nikolov began his art education at the school of arts in Sofia and finished it in Maastricht. After graduating from the Sandberg Institute of Amsterdam 2002, Nikola started his Studio-Re-Creation.  His concept is finding a contribution to sustainable design, by creating a piece of art, by using spare parts of design icons. One of his creations is presented by Lidewij Edelkoort in an international exposition traveling the world.
